Signs You Might Have a Mosquito Problem
Mosquitoes are often dismissed as mere annoyances, their incessant buzzing a soundtrack to summer evenings spent outdoors.
However, this perception can undermine the significant health risks and ecological impacts these pests carry. Far from being just a nuisance, mosquitoes are a real threat to public health, the environment, and the quality of life for communities around the world, including here in the Washington D.C. area.
The most obvious sign of a mosquito problem is their presence in large numbers, especially during dusk and dawn.
Other indicators include mosquito larvae in standing water, such as bird baths, clogged gutters, or any container holding stagnant water. Frequent mosquito bites are also a clear sign of an infestation.
Most Common Mosquito Breeding Sites
Mosquitoes Love To Lay Their Eggs In Stagnate Water
Clogged Gutters
Clogged gutters are one the most overlooked mosquito breeding grounds.
Gutters are mostly out of sight where mosquito larvae can be kept safe. Keep those gutter clean!
Bird Baths
The beautiful features in your yard can become a mosquito cesspool.
The best way to avoid allowing mosquitoes is to replace the water daily.
Pet Dishes
Keeping your pet’s water dishes fresh make your pet happy, but also the rest of your family.
Mosquitoes will reproduce in pet dishes if old water is not dumped out daily.
“Empty” Containers
Watering cans, bottles, toys or buckets left out in the rain can attract and propagate mosquitoes very quickly.
A single bottle-capful of standing water can be responsible for thousands of mosquitoes.

Mosquito Treatment Kills Ticks Too!
Ticks, much like mosquitoes, are considered related pests due to their ability to transmit diseases to humans and animals through their bites.
Both pests are vectors for pathogens that can lead to serious health conditions—mosquitoes can spread diseases such as West Nile Virus and Zika, while ticks are known for transmitting Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, among others.
Their life cycles and behavior patterns also present opportunities for integrated pest management strategies that focus on prevention, control, and environmental management.
At Highland Eco Pest Control, we use a holistic and environmentally sensitive approach to tick control, similar to our mosquito management services.
Our organic mosquito control treatment exterminates the ticks and also repels any new ticks from re-infesting your yard.
We understand the importance of protecting your family and pets from tick-borne diseases and are committed to implementing effective, sustainable solutions.
Our goal is to create safer, healthier outdoor spaces for both residential and commercial properties through expert knowledge, responsible practices, and a dedication to customer satisfaction.
